About Us
The GNLU Legal Services Committee has been set up in the year 2007 by way of Section 4(k) of the Legal Service Authorities Act, 1987 which reads as "Develop, in consultation with the Bar Council of India, programs for clinical legal education and promote guidance and supervise the establishment and working of legal services clinics in universities, law colleges and other institutions". The Legal Aid Cell (or committee, as is the practice now), established under statutory law provides assistance through a variety of methods, including traditional casework, summary advice, self-help, community legal education, community development and policy reform initiatives.
In our commitment to fostering legal awareness and aiding those in need, our endeavours encompass a diverse range of activities including speed mentoring sessions, support for street vendors, awareness campaigns in local courts, and the creation of informative reels to promote legal education.
In furtherance of our legal aid and awareness efforts, we are thrilled to announce our collaboration with NYAAYA an organization dedicated to providing accessible legal information through mobile legal aid services on October 11, 2023. This signifies the commencement of a multifaceted dynamic partnership between Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar and NYAAYA, aiming to extend the reach of legal aid to a wider audience.
We have established a helpline to register socio-legal queries, produced informative reels on legal aid and awareness, and organised sub-teams within GNLU to address specific verticals of NYAAYA. These sub-teams, composed of GNLU legal aid team members, successfully addressed the initial sets of socio-legal questions from various verticals.
We're grateful for the collaboration support and look forward to making a positive impact with NYAAYA in the lives of those seeking legal assistance!
